Ground penetrating radar can be used to locate dowel rods in concrete floors. At a University Hospitals project in Cleveland, GPRS was used to locate dowel rods tying a structural wall into the concrete slab. The concrete was poured over metal decking and radar was able to scan the concrete and differentiate between the wire mesh in the concrete and the rebar dowels. They were marked onto the surface of the concrete so that holes could be drilled without compromising the structural integrity of the building.
